EMDR therapy
Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) is a form of therapy that is mainly used to process traumatic experiences. When you get stuck in processing traumatic experiences, this can lead to recurring fearful images or thoughts about the event that you have little to no control over. This can cause suffering such as anxiety, depression or sleep problems. In an EMDR session, we work on reducing the charge of intense memories so that the normal processing of the traumatic event can take place again. EMDR is the first-choice treatment for processing trauma.
What is EMDR therapy?
EMDR is a therapeutic method that helps you to reduce the emotional charge of traumatic events. During a session, you focus your attention on the memory, while being distracted by eye movements. This allows your brain to still process the experience in a healthy way.
EMDR helps with:
- Trauma after accidents or violence
- Anxiety or panic attacks
- Reliving or flashbacks
- Difficult childhood memories
- Shame or guilt
- Negative self-image
EMDR therapy in my practice in Utrecht or online
In my approach there is space for softness and attunement. Before we start with EMDR, we take the time to speak about what you're experiencing and whether this method is suitable for you. We work step by step, at your pace.
I offer EMDR as individual sessions or integrated into a therapeutic process.

What clients say
"I look back fondly on the EMDR treatment I received from Sophie. She helped me remove a major blockage, which allows me to function better."
"During a very difficult time, when my thoughts and feelings were holding me back, I met Sophie. She immediately made me feel safe and comfortable, which gave me the courage to be open. By also taking the meditation course, I was able to connect with my feelings and the core of my pain much more quickly. Her skills as a psychologist and her knowledge of meditation are a perfect way for me to connect with my core, to give space to my trauma and grief, and to allow it to heal. I now meditate daily and feel reconnected with myself, grounded, and able to process my past more effectively. All in all, a very pleasant form of therapy that allows me space for myself, my feelings, and my thoughts."
"Sophie is a highly knowledgeable professional who listens attentively, provides helpful tools, and is patient. I highly recommend Sophie!"
